Macromedia Flex won't play with mobiles

I blogged dynamically generating mobile Flash content a while ago and was looking forward to getting my hands on Macromedia Flex to do just that. My adventures with Ming taught me you need to generate Flash 4 content for mobile Flash to work but a quick flick through the Flex documentation reveals it requires Flash 7 or higher and there is no property to set Flash content to lower versions. This effectively rules out Flex as an option for dynamically generating mobile Flash content which is a really, really, really stupid thing for Macromedia to do.
